Goldfish have a short memory. Here’s how to be better than a goldfish.

  1. Take notes. That’s called active reading. Scribble what you find interesting about a text.
  2. Connect ideas from the book with places, people, events. Inspiration is what happens when two distant ideas cross in your mind and make a baby.
  3. Summarize the book in a paragraph. Or even – in a sentence. How would you describe the book to a colleague on his way out the door?
